Gha’il Rhodes Benjamin has been cast to play Lena Younger


Yendor Productions is pleased to announce that Gha’il Rhodes Benjamin has been cast to play Lena Younger (Mama) for the Drew University’s 2012-2013 DUDS Season production of “ A Raisin in the Sun”, directed by Professor Rodney Gilbert.

Gha’il Rhodes Benjamin (AEA) (award winning actress and poet) most recently performed her one-woman show of Spoken word/poetry and monologues in the Motor City for Detroit Medical Centers’ Spiritual Care Week with Urban Strings Quartet. Gha’il is also the voice of poetry on radio waves throughout the tri-state area via an Award Winning PSA for Safe Horizons, a domestic violence prevention/awareness program. Highlights of Gha’il’s On-Stage performances include the role of Jade in Steal Away, Libby Price in Bee-Luther-Hatchee, Harriet Tubman in Her Reflection, Angela Davis in Love Songs/Reality and Featured Improvisational Performer for the NFL’s Life Skills Training seminars for Players and their immediate families. Television and Film credits include Reparation Blues, a collaboration with filmmaker ( Al Santana), Vivian in Harlem Sistas Double Dutch (Nicole Franklin), Call me on it (Shari Carpenter) and Americano (Carlos Ferrand). Ms. Benjamin has also performed as a solo performance artist in venues such as Nuyorican Poets Café, Sistas Place, Lincoln Centers’ Outdoor Summer Series, The Triad, The Knitting Factory and Symphony Space.
